You may want more control over how you bill your workers. For this, you can set up individual occupation rates. Then, every time you pay someone as a journeyman carpenter, you can bill them at a rate you set up for that occupation. In addition to this level of control, you can also set up certain occupations to be billed as different occupations. That is, you may have an apprentice level 4 carpenter you think should be charged as a journeyman. Abio allows you to set up an occupation for that apprentice wherein they are paid as an apprentice but billed as a journeyman. This is just an example, you can set up any occupation this way.
Start by navigating to the occupation entry screen where pay rates are set up. Select item [c] Payroll on the navigation panel, and under that heading, select item [u] for Setup, then [e] for Occupation Entry:
On the Occupation Entry screen, there’s a field ‘T&M occupation’:
Typically this field defaults to the same occupation as the rate is for, but it may be that you have several levels of apprentice and they are all billed out at the same rate. They can all be set to the generic apprentice level rate.
Set this to the occupation you’d like to use for Time and Materials billings. Then, set up the occupation Time & Materials rate. This is done on the Occupations tab (4) on the Labour Rate entry screen:
The fields on this screen are fairly self-explanatory. You can set up different rates for different shifts, or just select ‘A’ll shifts. Typically shift ‘1’ refers to day shifts, and shifts ‘2’ and ‘3’ are night shifts. Night shifts can have different rates, or you can set up night shift premiums. Premiums are covered in more detail in the Payroll lessons.
If a timesheet is posted to shift 2 or shift 3, and you’ve set up a shift premium, then that amount will automatically be added to the billing amount.
